The Naughty Waves

Fun and cautionary fairy tale for kids about mischievous ocean waves whose tricks go too far, proving that fun should never hurt others.

Nezbedne Vlny Rozpravka

Once upon a time, in a small, cozy cove at the edge of a deep blue sea, there lived the ocean waves. These waves weren’t just ordinary waves like all the others. They were small but full of energy, and they simply could not stay still. To put it plainly, they were downright mischievous. Instead of gently rocking on the surface and dancing in the sunlight like good waves should, they were always coming up with new ways to have fun at the expense of anyone who dared to enter their kingdom.

The first ones to feel the naughty waves on their own skin were the swimmers. Every day, when people came to enjoy a cool, refreshing swim, the waves would chase after them and start dunking them under. The moment a swimmer tried to dip their head beneath the surface, a wave would come rolling in and splash right into their face. Some swimmers didn’t even get the chance to dive in because the waves knocked them over before they could take a breath. All around the cove, you could hear the mean-spirited giggles of the naughty waves.

Divers, who bravely plunged into the deep sea to discover the wonders of the underwater world, had it even worse. As soon as they sank below the surface, the waves started tugging on their fins, churning the water all around them, and swirling sand into their masks so they couldn’t see a thing. It was as if those mischievous waves had made a secret pact to ruin every single attempt to explore the coral reefs.

And the surfers? They really had a tough time. Every time one of them tried to catch the perfect wave and show off their best tricks, the waves suddenly changed their minds. Either they shrank and flattened out before the surfer could get up and ride them, or they rose up without warning, tossing the surfer into the water and sending the board drifting far out to sea, where the naughty waves would play with it like a toy.

Not even the fish and other sea creatures escaped the waves’ attention. Whenever the dolphins decided to play together, the waves wouldn’t let them perform their beautiful jumps, or they pushed them toward the shallow water, where the dolphins had to hurry back to the safety of the deep. The tiny sea creatures hiding in the seaweed were often yanked from their cozy hiding places and carried off to strange new waters. There, they didn’t know their way around at all, and they were in real danger from hungry predators.

The waves were delighted with their own mischief and never imagined that their fun could ever come to an end. But one day, when they were being especially naughty, dark clouds suddenly appeared in the sky. The wind began to blow, harder and harder, until it turned into a roaring storm. The waves tried to stay where they were, dancing on the surface, but the wind was far too strong. All at once, it began to shove them toward the shore.

The waves tried to resist. They leapt and splashed and pushed back, but it was no use. The powerful wind drove them closer and closer to the sandy beach until at last, every wave, one after another, crashed onto the shore. There, they broke apart and sank into the sand, where they no longer had any chance to bother anyone. The beach grew quiet, the sea calmed down, and the naughty waves vanished from the face of the earth.

From that day on, the sea became a safe place again for swimmers, divers, surfers, and all the creatures that called it home. And even though no one ever saw the naughty waves again, everyone remembered their story as a warning: even the wildest fun has to end someday if it hurts others along the way.
