Dinosaury v pravekom svete

Dinosaurs were gigantic creatures that lived on Earth millions of years ago, long before people appeared. Their name means “terrible lizards,” which fits, since some were truly huge and could look quite scary.

What Did Dinosaurs Look Like?

Dinosaurs came in many shapes and sizes. Some were as small as a chicken, while others were as long as two buses put together! They had different colors and scales, and some even had feathers. There were plant-eaters, like the enormous Diplodocus, and meat-eaters, like the famous Tyrannosaurus rex.

Where Did Dinosaurs Live?

Dinosaurs lived on every continent—including Antarctica! Each type of dinosaur had a favorite habitat—some liked forests, others deserts or riverbanks. Giant marine reptiles also lived in the seas and oceans—but they weren’t dinosaurs.

How Did Dinosaurs Live?

Dinosaurs lived during the Mesozoic Era, which included the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. The Jurassic Period lasted from about 201 to 145 million years ago. Dinosaurs laid eggs and cared for their young much like today’s birds. Some lived in groups to protect themselves from predators, while others preferred to live alone.

Why Did Dinosaurs Go Extinct?

About 66 million years ago, something terrible happened that caused most dinosaurs to go extinct. Scientists think a huge asteroid hit Earth and triggered big environmental changes. Dust and aerosols blocked sunlight, the climate cooled, and food became scarce. Dinosaurs couldn’t survive these new conditions and gradually disappeared.

Why Are Dinosaurs Important?

Dinosaurs help us understand how life on Earth changed and evolved. Studying them teaches us about evolution, how animals adapt to their surroundings, and what Earth was like long ago. Dinosaurs are fascinating for both kids and adults—and many of us dream of seeing one in real life!
