Piglets are amazing—curious, clever, and full of surprises. Here are eight fun facts to help you get to know them better!

1. Piglets Are Super Clean

If they have enough space, piglets keep sleeping and eating areas separate from their bathroom spots. Clean and tidy!

2. Great Companions

Piglets are very social and love to cuddle with one another (and sometimes with people). They make great companions.

3. Piglets Are Smart

Piglets are very intelligent—often compared with dogs—and can learn simple tricks, like following easy commands or solving food puzzles.

4. Expressive Sounds

Piglets “talk” with many sounds: happy grunts, curious oinks, and loud squeals when upset. Each sound shares a feeling or need.

5. Fast Growers

A piglet can grow into an adult weighing up to 300 kg (about 660 lbs), depending on the breed—that’s as heavy as a big motorcycle!

6. Amazing Sense of Smell

With a powerful nose, piglets can sniff out food easily. In some countries, trained pigs even search for truffles, tasty (and expensive) fungi that grow underground.

7. They Love Mud

Piglets may be clean, but they enjoy rolling in mud to cool down (pigs don’t sweat much). Mud also shields skin from sunburn and keeps insects away.

8. All-Around Vision

With eyes on the sides of their heads, piglets have a wide field of view—great for spotting danger. (They still have small blind spots right in front and behind.)
