The Story of Bluey the Little Dog

A gentle, feel‑good tale: Bluey the little dog helps others, braves a wild river to save a puppy, and finds acceptance in his village at IceMountain.

O psíkovi Modrošovi

Once upon a time, in a small village at the foot of a hill called IceMountain, there lived a little dog named Bluey. Do you know why he had such a funny name? Bluey’s fur was actually blue! What else could you call him? But because of how different he looked, the other dogs in the village teased him and always pushed him away. They thought his appearance was odd—even weird—so nobody wanted to be his friend.

Bluey was sad that the other animals wouldn’t include him. Still, he was full of love and friendship. So one day, he decided to do everything he could to be helpful to others, hoping they would become his friends at last.

The very next day, Bluey met a tearful hen. She couldn’t find her eggs, which were about to hatch into yellow chicks. Bluey didn’t hesitate for a second—using his incredible nose, he sniffed out a trail that led into the nearby forest. Beneath a big spruce tree, he found a marten about to feast on the hen’s eggs! Bluey barked so fiercely that the marten ran off in fear, and Bluey returned the eggs to the grateful hen.

Just then, a snowy white rabbit hopped by. After hearing how Bluey had helped the hen, he hurried over and asked for help, too. He needed to gather enough carrots to last through the winter, but every time he pulled carrots from the ground, his white fur got too dirty. So he asked Bluey to help him out. Happy to be useful again, Bluey quickly got to work. His strong jaws made pulling the carrots easy, and within an hour, all the carrots were out of the ground. Together, Bluey and the rabbit carried the carrots to a secret hiding spot—one that Bluey promised never to reveal. That night, Bluey went to sleep with a happy heart.

The next morning, more animals were waiting outside his doghouse, hoping Bluey would help them. First, he helped a mother pig who had lost track of her piglets. Next, he freed some sheep that had gotten caught in thick, thorny bushes. In the afternoon, he carried fresh water from a nearby stream to the horses. Later, he watched over some naughty little goats while their mother went shopping. By bedtime, Bluey was tired, but he felt proud.

But just as he was about to rest, the other village dogs arrived. They explained that a puppy had gone missing, and even though they were good at sniffing, they couldn’t find it anywhere. They asked Bluey for help.

Bluey could hardly hide his excitement—they were finally asking him for help! He quickly got to work: he found out where the puppy had last been seen, then sniffed one of its favorite toys for a scent. It didn’t take long for his nose to lead him to a fast-moving river, where he saw the little puppy clinging to a slippery rock in the middle of the rushing water. Bluey didn’t hesitate—he leaped into the wild river, swam to the puppy, grabbed it gently in his mouth, and started swimming toward shore. The current was strong, and both Bluey and the puppy were pulled under. Just then, the other dogs formed a living chain, and together they pulled Bluey and the puppy onto dry land.

Everything ended well—not only for the puppy, but also for Bluey. From that day on, he had lots of friends in the village and many more adventures—never feeling alone again.
