In a magical corner of the sky, a small cloud drifted day after day, watching people and animals down below. But whenever anyone spotted him, they’d pop open their umbrellas and hurry off to find shelter. Even the woodland creatures would scurry for cover when the sky grew gray. This made the little cloud unhappy, and he often wept. He watched sadly as his teardrops fell onto the empty, lonely land.
“Why does everyone run away?” the cloud sniffled as the wind carried him along again. “I don’t want to hurt anybody.”
Just then, the cloud heard a gentle voice. It was a smiling, golden ball leaning over from the brightest spot in the sky—the sun.
“Dear Cloud,” the sun said kindly, “don’t feel bad. People run from the rain because they don’t want to get wet. It doesn’t mean they don’t like you. Raindrops are essential for nature! Think about it: when you bring rain, flowers and trees grow, and the fields are full of a rich harvest. Animals have water to drink, and rivers stay full for the fish.”
The cloud pondered the sun’s sweet words. “Is that really true?” he asked shyly.
“Of course it is,” the sun beamed. “Without rain, everything would dry up and people couldn’t grow fruits and veggies. Even birds would be sad, because there’d be nowhere to refresh themselves.”
The cloud felt a little better, though it still bothered him that everyone seemed to avoid him. That’s when the sun made a suggestion:
“Come on, let me show you something beautiful we can create together. You shower the earth with a gentle drizzle, and I’ll dance my golden rays across the sky.”
The cloud brightened and floated next to the sun, letting his soft rain fall from above. The sun flooded the heavens with its warm glow. Then something magical happened—a shimmering rainbow appeared, sparkling between the raindrops and sunlight.
“Oh wow, that’s amazing!” cried the cloud with joy. The rainbow stretched above the hills and meadows. All the people who’d run from the rain gazed up in wonder. Gone were the thoughts of soggy shoes and umbrellas—everyone was dazzled by this never-before-seen beauty.
“See?” the sun told the cloud. “Your water is just as important as my light. When we work together, we can make something miraculous.”
After this, the cloud stopped worrying whether his raindrops annoyed people. He knew his job in nature was precious. Now, his raindrops didn’t just bring coolness and wet clothes—they also brought freshness and new life. And whenever his drops joined the sun’s beams, something breathtaking happened—a rainbow that filled everyone’s hearts with happiness.
So the cloud never felt lonely again. He understood that sadness can turn into joy, and that even gloomy things can help the world in a wonderful way. The air filled with gentle rain, sunny laughter, and heads lifted high as people admired the shimmering rainbow. And the cloud realized his tiny drops could create something magical—all it took was a bit of sunshine and a sprinkle of hope.
