In a small, cheerful town where the houses shone like a rainbow and the streets smelled of fresh-baked cookies, there lived a clown named Bubbles. He always wore a wide smile, and his clothes were covered in colorful polka dots. On his head sat a hat that would spin merrily whenever he twirled. Bubbles was beloved all across town for his shows, full of tricks that never failed to make everyone laugh.
Every Friday evening, children and grown-ups gathered in the town’s main square to be part of his enchanting show. Bubbles always began by pulling balloon animals from a big magic top hat and handing them to grinning children, who squealed with delight. Then he performed magic full of surprises: from an empty bucket he conjured bright ribbons, and when he blew his whistle, soap bubbles began to float around the square.
One evening, though, winter arrived earlier than usual. Bubbles started his show as always, but a sharp wind scattered all his bubbles, and the frost turned the bright ribbons stiff inside his bucket. When he tried to twist a balloon animal, the balloon popped from the cold. Children tucked under their parents’ coats as dusk fell and the chill grew stronger.
Bubbles tried to keep smiling, but inside he felt something different. When the show ended and everyone hurried off to find warm shelter from the cold, Bubbles stood in the middle of the empty square, surrounded by the blown-away remnants of his magic. Alone beneath the winter sky, he felt as if something inside him had frozen. From that day on, sadness settled in his heart and his smile was gone. He no longer knew how to cheer up the town that loved him so much. The cheerful clown had become a sad clown.
Days passed, and Bubbles spent a lot of time alone, sitting on a bench in the park where he had once made passersby burst into giggles. His downcast look was unbearable for the children. Whenever they saw him so disappointed, their little hearts filled with sorrow. They knew they had to do something to bring their beloved clown’s smile back.

The bravest group of children decided to ask for help from the King of Clowns himself, who lived atop the tallest hill in the land, in a palace full of mirrors and silly pictures. After a long journey full of riddles and puzzles they had to solve to keep going, they finally arrived at the gates of his colorful palace.
The King of Clowns, a jolly old man with a long, wavy mustache and a red nose, welcomed them with open arms. After hearing their story about the sad Bubbles, he grew thoughtful and smiled mysteriously beneath his curling mustache. Then he pulled from his great hat a small chest that gleamed like a golden treasure.
“My dear children,” said the King of Clowns, “inside this chest is something very special. It is the essence of true joy, which every clown needs to fill his heart with happiness. Take it back to Bubbles and tell him to open it in the light of the first morning rays. Then he must share a piece of that joy with everyone he meets. Only then can his own joy return.”

Filled with hope, the children took the chest and, smiling, set off back to the town. They knew they had just found a way to restore his joy in performing. Their hearts swelled with anticipation as they pictured their favorite clown lighting up again.
When the children returned to town, they carried the chest full of hope. They found Bubbles still sitting on the same park bench, but this time the first morning sunbeams were filtering through the treetops and shining down on him. With smiles on their faces and the chest in their hands, they stepped toward him.
“Bubbles, we brought you a gift from the King of Clowns,” said little Maya as she handed him the mysterious chest.
Bubbles took it in his hands, questions in his eyes and curiosity in his heart. When he opened it, a rainbow of light poured out, filling the whole park and dancing in the sparkling drops of dew. A fine, shimmering dust drifted from the chest and settled gently on his face, and as it touched him, his sadness began to melt into a smile.
The sight of this change made the children burst into happy laughter. Bubbles stood up, and with newfound energy he began to share tiny pieces of the essence of joy with everyone he met. With every smile he gave away, his own smile grew wider and his heart lighter. The town once again filled with joy and laughter, and Bubbles was surrounded by children and grown-ups who had come to see his magical shows.
And so Bubbles spread joy once more, just as before, and the town was full of laughter and happiness. From that moment on, all the children in town knew that even the smallest act of kindness can bring a big change and restore joy to those who have lost it. The joy we give to others always finds its way back to us—especially when we need it most.
