In a little elf workshop at the far edge of the North Pole, things were usually cheerful and busy. The elves, surrounded by the scent of freshly baked sugar cookies and glittering Christmas trees, worked hard preparing presents for children all over the world. But this year, something was different.
Elvin, a tiny and hardworking elf who loved joining in all the Christmas preparations, noticed something odd. The workshop was in chaos, and all the presents had ended up in one big pile. Santa Claus, who watched everything from his icy throne, frowned and wondered how to fix things. Elvin knew he had to do something to bring back the Christmas cheer and make sure every child got their special gift.
He decided to use an ancient elf spell passed down through the generations. Waving his tiny hands over the mountain of gifts three times, he quietly whispered the magic words.
It seemed to work—presents lined up in perfect rows, in the exact order Santa was supposed to deliver them by sleigh. Each present was labeled with a name so Santa would know which gift belonged to which child. Elvin was thrilled that he had fixed the mistake and saved Christmas. Even Santa began to smile when he saw everything was back on track.
Santa asked his helpers to quickly load all the presents onto his sleigh—midnight was near, and he needed to get going to deliver gifts to every child by morning. Encouraged by his own success and his newfound belief in his magical skills, Elvin didn’t want to simply carry the gifts. Instead, he decided to use another spell to move the presents onto the sleigh. He waved his hands twice, whispered the magic words, and in an instant, the gifts were all on Santa’s sleigh. The other elves cheered—they were just as happy not to have to carry the heavy gifts.
Eagerly, Elvin told Santa that everything was ready and the sleigh was loaded. Santa praised the elves for their hard work and cleverness. He climbed into the sleigh, urged his reindeer on, and flew off to towns and villages everywhere to deliver presents. He loved his job, and giving joy to children around the world filled him with happiness. There were only a few presents left in the sleigh when he noticed something strange—a mountain bike for a five-year-old girl? “That can’t be right,” Santa thought. Then he realized all the gifts were mixed up—the names and addresses had been switched, and he hadn’t noticed until then! With a gasp, he sped his sleigh back to the North Pole.
“Elvin, Elvin!” Santa shouted when he landed outside the workshop. “All the gifts are mixed up! Did you use another spell?”
“Well, yes,” Elvin said nervously. “I wanted to speed up loading the presents, so I used magic to move them onto the sleigh,” he admitted.
“What spell did you use?” asked Santa, now frustrated.
“It was the flying spell. I whispered it and waved my hands twice.”
“Twice?” Santa said, dread creeping in. “Oh, you mixed-up elf! Don’t you know you’re supposed to wave three times for this magic?”
Embarrassed, Elvin wanted to fix everything and get the presents to the right places—but sunrise was almost here. There was no time!
“We have to go see the Queen of Time,” Santa decided.
They reached her just in time. The very first rays of sunshine were touching the mountain peaks. Santa pleaded with the Queen of Time to stop time, explaining what had happened when Elvin used the spell incorrectly. The Queen smiled—she knew Elvin and his many mixed-up spells well.
“I’ll stop time for three hours. You must use that time to get every present delivered to the right child,” she said.
Santa loaded all the elves into his sleigh to help. The reindeer pulled the sleigh faster than ever. In three hours, they flew around the world, just barely managing to fix what the mixed-up magic had caused.
When time started again and children woke up on Christmas morning, each one found the exact gift they had wished for under the tree. Christmas was saved! And as for Elvin? From then on, he decided to stick to using his hands for work—and no more spells.
