Once upon a time, deep in the woods, there lived a little mole named Rudy. Rudy was very kind and friendly, but he had one big problem—he couldn’t see well. His tiny eyes couldn’t make out the world around him, and everything seemed blurry and unclear. But Rudy longed to see the world bright and sharp, so he decided to seek help from the forest animals.
First, he went to his good friend, Floppy the bunny.
“Floppy, please help me. I can’t see well, and I want to see the world as clearly as you do,” Rudy asked. Floppy thought for a moment and then said, “Rudy, I’ve got an idea! What if you pressed two birch leaves over your eyes? Maybe they’ll sharpen your vision and you’ll see better.”
Rudy tried it right away, but sadly, it didn’t help. The world was still blurry. So Rudy went to see Ginger the squirrel. Ginger was very wise, and Rudy hoped she would advise him. “Ginger, please, tell me what to do. I want to see clearly, but I don’t know how,” Rudy complained. Ginger thought for a moment and then exclaimed, “I’ve got it! Maybe if you held two tiny pebbles in front of your eyes, it would help.”
Rudy held two pebbles to his eyes, but those didn’t help either. So the squirrel at least advised him to visit the woodpecker. He was, after all, the forest doctor. The little mole found the woodpecker and, just as he had told the bunny and the squirrel, told him about his eyesight problem. The thoughtful Doctor Woodpecker pattered up the tree trunk and pecked out a plump worm.
“Eat this worm. It’s full of vitamins—you’ll surely see better afterward.” Rudy, a little disgusted but hopeful, swallowed the worm. He waited and looked around to see if it would help. It didn’t. Rudy was already desperate and didn’t know what to do. Just then, Aggie the magpie flew down to him. “Rudy, I’ve heard about your problem, and maybe I can help,” Aggie said. “Yesterday I was in the garden of an old man who also can’t see well. When he wants to read, he puts two glass circles over his eyes. He calls them glasses. I think they might help you.”

Rudy was overjoyed and asked Aggie to bring him those glasses. The magpie flew to the old man’s garden, and when he wasn’t looking, she took the glasses in her beak and brought them to Rudy. When the little mole put them on, it was as if a miracle had happened! The world around him suddenly became bright and clear. He saw every detail, every leaf on the tree, every dewdrop on the grass. Rudy was so happy he wanted to shout for joy. From that time on, Rudy wore the old man’s glasses and enjoyed the beauty of the forest to the fullest. He was immensely grateful to Aggie and to all the animals who wanted to help him. He discovered that he had many good friends around him and that together they could overcome any problem.
And what about the old man? He grumbled a little when he couldn’t find his glasses. He had to go to town and buy a new pair. But if he had known how much happiness his glasses brought to a little mole, he would surely have been happy about it too.
