Hi there, kids! My name is Miko the Bunny, and today I’m going to tell you an unbelievable story that happened to me.
One beautiful morning, I was hopping across the wide, open savanna. Sunbeams were gently stroking the golden grass, which rippled softly in the breeze. The air was filled with the smells of all the animals grazing around me. Under a tall baobab tree, I found the juiciest clump of fresh grass. I dug in with delight and felt completely content.
All of a sudden, I tensed up. In the distance, I heard a faint rustling sound. I pricked up my long ears, and my heart started pounding like crazy. Among the shadows of the trees, something moved. It was a hyena! Her sharp teeth glinted in the sunlight, and her eyes were fixed right on me.
I didn’t hesitate for even a second. I spun around and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. My little paws leaped over tall grass and sharp stones, and I dodged prickly bushes. The wind roared in my ears, and I could feel my heart thudding all the way up in my throat. I heard the hyena running behind me. Her footsteps were getting closer and closer. Fear pushed me forward, but I could feel my strength slipping away.
After a long chase, I just couldn’t go on. My breath was short, and my legs felt heavy as lead. I stopped under a flowering tree and turned toward the hyena as she came up to me. With fear in my eyes, I begged her, “Please don’t eat me! I’m just a little rabbit.”
The hyena stopped and started to laugh. Her laughter was loud, but it wasn’t mean at all. “Eat you? Oh, no way!” she said with a big grin. “I thought we were playing tag. You run so fast that I wanted to catch up to you and get to know you.”
I stared at her, completely confused. “Really?” I asked. “Of course,” the hyena said, nodding. “I’m always looking for new friends to play with, but most animals are scared of me.”
Slowly, I stopped trembling. “So… you don’t want to eat me?” I checked one more time. “No,” she said, her eyes sparkling. “I want to play with you and be your friend.”
It seemed unbelievable, but from that day on we met every single day. Together we ran across the savanna, played hide-and-seek, and discovered hidden corners of our world. The sun shone on our path, and the wind whispered new stories to us.
The other animals watched us in amazement. They just couldn’t understand our strange friendship. “How can a rabbit be friends with a hyena?” they whispered to one another. But when they saw how happy we were, they realized that even the biggest enemies can sometimes find a way to get along.
And that’s how I learned, dear children, that we shouldn’t judge others by how they look or by what people say about them. Everyone deserves a chance, and friendship can grow in the very place you’d least expect it.
