In a little village beneath a hill whose rocks glowed deep red at sunset, there once lived a girl named Viki. Ever since she was a small child, she had loved horses. During the day, Viki read stories about famous show jumpers and their amazing horses, and at night she dreamed of riding her own horse in a huge arena. She often sat by the fence of the local riding school, watching in awe as the horses, with their riders on their backs, soared gracefully over the jumps. And even though she was still young, her heart pounded with the wish to become one of them—a real professional rider.

One sunny day, Viki went for a walk in the forest that stretched just beyond the village. It was an old, mysterious forest, full of whispering trees and birdsong. Among the twisted roots and the fresh scent of pine, Viki felt as if she had stepped into another world. When she heard a faint, crying sound echoing through the woods, the little girl bravely followed it.

At the edge of a forest lake, where the sky shimmered in the still, mirrored water, Viki found an injured horse. It was a breathtaking creature, with a coat so silvery it seemed to have risen straight from the surface of the lake. Its eyes, clouded with pain, were silently begging for help. Though she was just a young girl, Viki knew at once she had to do something. She cupped water in her hands so the horse could drink, and from forest herbs she made a soothing poultice for its wounds.

Day after day, Viki cared for the horse, feeding him and carefully watching as his injuries slowly healed. Then one morning, when the horse was feeling much better, something magical happened. The horse spoke to her.

“Why are you helping me?” he asked, now able to stand on his own four legs.

It took the startled Viki a moment before she could push out a few shaky words. “You… you can talk?”

“Yes. My name is Arion, guardian of all the animals in this forest. I’m not an ordinary horse. Hundreds of years ago, the forest fairies created me from drops of morning dew. Because of that, I have magical powers. One of them is that I can speak your language,” the horse said with a soft smile, then gently repeated his question. “But you still haven’t answered me. Why did you help me?”

“Because I’ve always dreamed of riding and jumping with a beautiful horse like you,” Viki answered, now with a shy smile of her own.

Deeply moved by her kindness, Arion decided to teach Viki everything he knew about riding. “But I’m not an ordinary horse, Viki. Riding with me will test your courage and your heart.”

From that day on, they trained together every day. Viki learned how to sit steady and balanced in the saddle, how to listen to Arion and work together with him. Side by side, they tackled all kinds of forest obstacles, from fallen trees to steep slopes. Arion taught her how to hear the whisper of the wind and read the quiet signs of nature, which helped her become not only a better rider but a better person.

After months of practice, they were finally ready to show the world what they could do together. They didn’t have to wait long for their first chance. In a nearby town, the yearly show-jumping competition was about to begin, and Viki and Arion signed up. On the day of the event, the air buzzed with excitement and nerves as riders prepared and the crowd clapped and cheered for their favorites. Standing at the starting line beside the horse who had taught her not just to ride but to dream, Viki felt her heart swell with pride and determination. Then she heard Arion’s quiet voice, speaking straight into her heart: “We trust each other, Viki, and together we can win.”

When the starting signal rang out, Arion leaped into a powerful gallop. Every jump was a challenge, but together they cleared them with grace and precision. Viki knew exactly when to turn him, when to ask for takeoff, when to speed up, and when to steady him. She felt all her hard work and training melt into one smooth, perfect dance with Arion. Jumps that had once seemed impossible now flowed beneath them with ease. The crowd watched in amazement at their timing and the deep trust between girl and horse.

The final stretch came into view, and Viki and Arion seemed to float above the ground as they sailed over the last jump and crossed the finish line. The victory was theirs! Thunderous applause and joyful shouts filled the arena as Viki threw her arms around Arion’s neck, overflowing with gratitude and happiness. “We did this together,” she whispered to him.

With their win at the local show, Viki and Arion became well known and soon received invitations to compete in other events. The years that followed were full of hard training and many more victories. Viki grew into a successful professional rider, written about in magazines and admired by young girls who shared the same dreams she had once held.

But like all good things, this time in her life slowly came to an end. One day, Viki—now a grown woman—faced a difficult choice. Arion, old and tired after so many years of riding, spoke to her one quiet night. “Viki, the time has come for me to return to the forest where I came from. I have fulfilled my purpose, and now I must go. Only in the forest can I live forever.”

Tears shimmered in Viki’s eyes. Still, she knew she had to be strong. “You were more than just my horse, Arion. You were my friend, my teacher, and my partner.” Together, they set out on one last walk into the forest where they had first met years ago. At the edge of the lake where their paths had crossed, Viki and Arion said goodbye. With love and gratitude, they shared one final, lingering look.

As Viki turned and walked away from the forest, Arion looked one last time at the girl whose dream he had helped come true. Then his silvery shape slowly faded into the gentle forest light, so he could once more become the strong guardian of the woods.

Even without Arion by her side, Viki continued her life as a rider with the strength and resolve he had given her. She knew that every jump, every obstacle she cleared was more than just part of a competition—it was a reminder of her journey with Arion, the horse who had taught her how to reach for the stars.
