Dear kids and dear spectators! Welcome to the coldest and funniest event of this winter—the Great Race for the Best Slider! We’re here in the tiny village of Northwindville, where there’s more snow than ants in an anthill and winter lasts an incredible five months. But today is a special day, because we’re here to see what the kids decided to ride as they slide down the famous hill Icymount!
The racers are ready at the starting line; their sliding “vehicles” are in place; and I, your commentator, Frank Snowcat, will guide you through the whole event. So grab your hot cocoa, pull on your hats, and here we go!
First up is Katie, a smiling eight‑year‑old girl with braids sticking out from under her red hat. And what will she surprise us with? Hold on tight, because instead of a sled… Katie has an inflatable duck! That’s right, a summer pool float she used to ride on the lake, and today she’s going to take it down the dangerous Icymount.
And she’s off! Katie’s duck is gliding over the snow so smoothly that it’s a joy to watch. Katie hits a little ramp, and her duck does a flip! The crowd bursts into applause, and Katie waves her arms happily. In just a moment, she’ll be at the finish line, and I’m sure it’s going to be a great time. But what’s this? The inflatable duck bursts on the last obstacle, and the explosion launches Katie all the way to the finish, where the crowd greets her with roaring cheers. Kids, believe me, this run is going straight into the race record book.
But now at the starting line we have Matthew, whom everyone simply calls “the Inventor.” Today he’s brought the wildest sliding idea of all: an old mattress from his bed. On top of that, he’s pulled a flowery sheet over it, bringing a little bit of spring into this freezing winter’s day. Let’s all wish him luck.

Here we go! Matthew is lying on his belly, clinging to the mattress like a spider, and… he’s off! The mattress is sliding fast, wobbling a bit side to side, but Matthew’s grip is strong. Oh no, he’s just hit a snow pile that spins the mattress—and Matthew with it—around and around! The mattress keeps spinning and spinning, but Matthew hangs on! He makes it to the finish, covered in snow and wearing the biggest grin you’ve ever seen. But wait—Matthew stands up and falls right back down. His head is still spinning from that snow carousel.
Next up is Lena. She’s probably the smallest child in the village. But don’t let her height fool you! Lena has brought a red snow shovel to the race! And of course, being a proper young lady, she’s matched her outfit perfectly to the color of her shovel. Let’s hope it brings her good luck.

Lena is already sitting on the shovel as if it were a royal throne, and down she goes. Look at that speed! The shovel isn’t very stable, but Lena handles it like a seasoned pro. She conquers every obstacle on the track—and she’s at the finish! The crowd goes wild, the shovel is in one piece, and so is Lena!
Now it’s Adam’s turn, a lover of all things cooking and a great little helper in the kitchen. What will he surprise us with? Of course, Adam chose a giant pot lid. Yesterday his mom used it to cook soup, and today Adam will show us his sliding skills on it.

Attention, attention! Adam is seated on the lid. Ready, set, go! And he’s sliding. What a ride! Unbelievable speed. Adam is yelling—but not from fear, from pure joy! And boom, he’s already at the finish. That was awesome! So far the fastest run in today’s sliding race.
At the start, we now have Dana, who everyone says is the bravest girl in the village. I’m really curious to see what she’ll ride down Icymount on. And Dana does not disappoint. She has just stepped onto a big wooden log she took from her grandpa’s shed. I’m sure you kids are wondering if Dana will be able to stay on her feet. Let’s find out.

Dana stands on the log like a captain on a ship—and she’s moving! The log slides smoothly and straight, and Dana’s arms are spread wide like wings. What a beautiful sight! It looks like she’s riding a snowboard, not a wooden log. One spin, another spin, a perfect pirouette—and she’s at the finish!
Our last racer is Joey, the youngest but funniest contestant. He’s brought a simple cardboard box. Joey painted it bright red so it would look like a race car. He’s ready, and there he goes! The cardboard slides like lightning—but—oh no—Joey has flipped over! But wait—here comes his mom. She wipes away his tears, brushes off the snow, and sets him back in the box. Joey keeps going! He’s sliding, sliding, sliding… and he slides all the way to the finish!

We’ve just seen a wonderful race full of originality, creativity, and determination from every single racer. I don’t envy the judges who have to pick the very best Snow Slider. We’ll wait just a bit for the results, but from the looks of it, the judges have made up their minds.
Dear spectators, the results are in! And what are they? Everyone is a winner! Katie for the biggest laugh, Matthew for creativity, Lena for courage, Adam for speed, Dana for style, and little Joey for bravery! The Race for the Best Snow Slider was amazing, and every participant walked away with a medal—and a big mug of hot cocoa!
And so Icymount became the happiest hill of the whole winter. The children were thrilled, the spectators were satisfied, and the village of Northwindville will remember this day for a very long time. Hooray for sliding! This is Frank Snowcat signing off. See you next year, friends.
